TED, Awesome and Challenges
Thursday’s Three
I have become addicted to TED. No seriously, I have. I’ve been restraining myself when it comes to re-posting some wonderful talks that I’ve seen lately. I think they are absolutely wonderful! Here’s one that TED put up listed under their category of Best of the Web. I think it’s really just for fun, though a bit of an advert for Improv Everywhere (also a great place for a light-hearted pick-me-up kinda moment or two.) Here’s the video from YouTube:
Now, on to AWESOME! Because of my aforementioned addiction to TED I heard Neil Pasricha, the author of the blog 1,000 Awesome Things tell the story of how he decided to create the site and a bit about its rise into popularity. I won’t beat you to death with another TED video, but you could check it out there or just check out Neil’s blog, www.1000AwesomeThings.com
And, what about CHALLENGES? That’s easy. It’s all about the 2011 Summer Challenges I’ve started with students from James Madison University who are part of the Kijiji program. Throughout the summer I’ll be tossing out challenges that will help the students remember/learn what Kijiji is trying to help them become…Citizens of Influence.
So, there you have it. My Thursday Three for May 26, 2011. Until next time…
Here’s a Thought…
Wednesday’s Wanderings
Today will be brief. Just a thought from another blogger I’ve started following.
His name is Simon Sinek. He doesn’t actually blog all that often. So, in fact, most of what I’m following are his Notes to Inspire that are delivered to my email inbox every day.
Like this one, for example:
To be innovative, you can’t look to what others have done.
The whole idea of blazing a path is that there
was no path there before.
If you’d like your own version of these notes, you can Go Here and sign up for yourself.
What Three Lessons?
Tuesday’s Timeless Truth
What 3 lessons do you think you would learn in the last 2 minutes if the 1 plane you were in was about to crash? Check out what Ric Elias learned as he sat in the front-row seat on Flight 1549, the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York in January 2009.
Take the 5 minutes and 3 seconds to watch this inspiring video and leave a comment, telling me what you think. (If, for any reason, you can’t see the video above, you can watch it over on TEDTalks at this link.
Lessons Learned as a Boy
Sunday’s Soul Searching
I’ve taken the opportunity lately to reflect on things my parents taught me. I remember my father wanting me to understand the heavy cost one pays for abusing alcohol as he pointed out to me all the “dead soldiers” (a.k.a. – empty beer bottles) we would see along side the dirt backroads of the oil field roads he drove. I also remember my mother teaching me the importance of respecting women and girls, particularly as I would get in trouble for hitting one of my older sisters.
As I sat musing on these things I came across a great video on YouTube on the MormonMessages channel. It portrays one of many lessons I, too, learned as a boy.
